Almost Gods

My entry for this week’s Single Frame Story prompt “almost.”  I confess this composition and idea isn’t a new one.  I did another version of this about a year ago.  It so fit the “almost” prompt that I couldn’t think beyond it.  Thank you, Michelangelo, for the cue:

Almost Gods

The God who created me

The Divine persona in me as God

Nearly unified or ever so not quite?

Postcard from the Edge

Something happened today in the atomic world that I found incredibly jarring.  I witnessed it.  And I just can’t even begin to articulate it here.  It happened between two coworkers, both female.  Miscommunication gone awry so fast and leading to one female physically trying to insert herself into the face of the other female who was trying to walk away from a heated situation.  That one female tried to close the office door of the other female and force her presence and desire in for a heated argument when the other female did not want it…and they actually fought over who would have more power to close the door and lock them in together or who would have more power to force the door open to remove themselves from the heat of the moment.

Imagine if that had been a man trying to force a woman into a closed location so he could launch into a verbal (at first) attack on the female.

This was between two WOMEN.  One who said “No” to talking (arguing) about something.  One who tried to bully it into happening.

There’s no hidden message here for anyone who may read or visit this weblog.  What I described above truly happened today in the atomic world.  And I am stunned by it.  Stunned.

Absofuckinglutely stunned by it.

I hate to express my real life angst into either this weblog or my inworld life-photos, but forgive me for indulging this once.  My entry for this week’s Single Frame Story prompt “edge” is entitled:  “Postcard from the Edge.”  Man, the baggage.  Unreal.  Years ago, a friend of mine said that he couldn’t stand reading authors who fictionalized their personal life and explored their own angst/experiences in novels they sold.  I wonder what that friend of mine, who is now 80, would think of this world and communication in this day and age.

Up Close & Personal … 1

I enjoy working at the craft of inworld photography, even if I’m a long way from mastering it.  Long way or not, I decided to do a nude series.  Seems to be part of this art path, and it makes sense that it is.  Not much is more beautiful than a clean composition of the very skin and form that we are in.   But in attempting this, I didn’t want to do something predictable.  So instead of focusing on the beauty of the nude female, I’m switching the approach up just a bit and focusing on the beauty of the nude male.  (I’m no fool.)  And not only that, there’s a part of me that wants to see what it feels like to be behind the camera in this way.  I’m staying clear of the word “objectifying” because that’s not my intention…but that word does rear itself (at least for me) when you focus so closely on another person’s body parts for lengths of time.  That alone has already proven to be an interesting learning experience, even early into this project.

So this begins my Nude Series.  I call it “Up Close & Personal.”  I plan to post the entries over a series of weeks on no particular day and in no particular order.  I sincerely thank my very, very very wonderful friend Dale who graciously agreed to collaborate with me on this project.  Dale rocks in so very many ways, including his natural inclination to be so wonderfully patient.  It still takes me forever with inworld photography to translate the approach from my head into action — to set up, find the mood, the lighting, the angle, and take the photos.  Dale always remains beautifully patient and supportive — it’s truly a wonderful collaboration — and looks as amazing in every capture as he is in every instance.

I Dance Because I Love

One Billion Rising

Dance!  Because You Love…

Dance!  Because You Dream…

“Dance is dangerous, joyous, sexual, holy, disruptive, contagious, it breaks the rules.
It can happen anywhere, anytime, with anyone and everyone, and it’s free.
Dancing insists we take up space, we go there together in community.
Dance joins us and pushes us to go further and that is why it’s at the center of ONE BILLION RISING.
With infectious music and lyrics from Tena Clark, amazing vocals by a talented group of V-Girls,
and Debbie Allen’s bold choreography,
Break The Chain is the anthem that will call up one billion to rise.”

– Eve Ensler (founder of One Billion Rising)

One Billion Rising V-Day is hours and counting, kicking off 2.14.13, everywhere.

In the atomic world, V-Day has joined forces with CNN ireport for women and men around the world to share their Rising stories.  Be sure to use #1billionrising or #vday along with the #1billionrisingsl for inworld Risers when you share your story on ireport.cnn.com.

In the virtual world, here’s the information that was released yesterday to SL webloggers.  One Billion Rising SL will join with atomic world activists from around the globe and the grid in a spectacular 24 hour dance event.

One Billion Rising SL begins Wednesday February 14th 12a.m. midnight, runs for 24 hours, and takes place on four sims, with the central stage extending over all four sims:

Be aware this is a General Maturity event (no nudity, offensive language or gestures are permitted).   At each landing point, you’ll find information kiosks with notecards about the event, the organization which inspired it, and how to help people who may be experiencing violence in their life.  Near the stage on each region is a gift area that holds One Billion Rising goodie boxes free for everyone attending the event.  Event sponsors have also been invited to place gifts in this area.  Around the edge of the sims, there are installations by 18 Second Life artists supporting One Billion Rising.

The party will feature different entertainment every hour:

There’s much more wonderful information in the notecards but what I’ve listed here is a general overview that should help set up the context for the event.  All I can say is it’s so immediately apparent from viewing the press material the utterly impressive amount of work inworld that went into putting this event together and the number of wonderful souls — volunteers, sponsors, curators — who are to be commended for making this all happen.  Wow, truly truly impressive.  Truly.  Take a moment, please, as you Rise and Dance and Love and Live and Break the Rules to Make a Positive Impact and check out the links and the lists to see all the amazing number of persons dancing right there with you in both worlds who gave so much of themselves to make One Billion Rising happen.  I know this post is long, but I simply must list the incredible group of SL persons.   Thank you all so very very very much for putting together and pulling off this vitally vitally vitally important inworld experience.

Heartfelt

hearts front

“Antique Hearts” from long-time friend and talented designer Tiffy Vella — whose work I adore — arrives just in time for V-Day.  “Hearts” is a gorgeous jewelry ensemble to wear for the inworld One Billion Rise events.  As with all of Tiffy’s creations, the set comes with a color changing hud for the stone, metals, and tiny hearts, providing countless color options.   Here’s a teeny sampling:

hearts red side

hearts pink side

hearts blue side

hearts lavendar side

“Hearts” also comes with three different earring styles and a bracelet.  Get yours on the marketplace or inworld at Eclectica Jewellery & Accoutrements.

Let’s Rise together with Love.

Sister, won’t you rise

Break the Chain
Break the Chain

One Billion Rising.

This critically important event takes place on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, everywhere.

You don’t have to hunt too hard to find incredibly sobering statistics on violence against women.  In America, a woman is raped every two minutes.   In other parts of the world, 15-year-old girls are shot in the head for having the “audacity” to seek an education and to say that women should be allowed to go to school.  If the War Against Women that was used as political fodder outraged you (and it should have), what seems like a global epidemic of mental and physical abuse against women should too.

Strike.

Dance.

Rise.

Break the Chain.

Be there.  Everywhere.
