A Full-blooded Woman Dreaming, With the Power Just to Be

Single Frame Story ~ Anonymous

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world.

Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead

I really do love the weekly Single Frame Story challenge.  It’s pushed me out of my comfort zone with photography and that’s a good thing.  How else do you learn?   Despite the fact that I have already learned a great deal, I still have a *long* way to go in terms of mastering storytelling or photography.  Still, the SFS challenge is *always* fun and always a source of inspiration.  Just checking out the wonderful entries each week gives rise to all the wonderful muses who sit anonymously (ironically enough) behind each entry.  (Click here for the Single Frame Story flickr stream.)

For this week with “anonymous” as the Single Frame Story prompt, I toyed with the idea of capturing a photo of  a muse at work.  I ended up not going that route only because I couldn’t envision the best way to execute it.  And besides… Guy Fawkes kept barging into my thought processes.   That and the realization that the 1 Percent Ruling Class is fairly anonymous, oddly enough…in a day and age when “privacy” has been declared dead.  While the rest of us have every second of our lives exposed, the only place where privacy still seems to exist is in the Royalty Class of the 1 Percent.  (When 1 percent control 50% of the nation’s wealth, that’s royalty pure and simple no matter how hard they try to masquerade as a democracy.)

So all of this led to a political statement.  It also created an urge in me to read “Griftopia” again…which I probably will do in a bit.   As for now, very very wonderful friend Dale put his Guy Fawkes on with me (get yours free on the marketplace) to create this week’s SFS entry.

Here we are fully revealed and taking on the invisible yet stupidly powerful 1 percent.  The beauty thing is determination works both ways.  Like Margaret Mead basically says, all it takes is a small group of people who put their weight into things and then things happen.   I don’t doubt her.  You say you want a revolution?  Well, you know…here’s to making things happen.

If you haven’t read Griftopia, you should…even though it will anger you.  It’s wonderfully written, and Taibbi doesn’t pull any punches:  “In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.”  ― Matt Taibbi, Griftopia: Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America .  Do check it out and/or check out his discussion at a book signing a couple years ago.

Everything about this, the photo, the post and your obvious passion about both- they’re all wonderful. Well done!

Thank you so very much, Whiskey. That’s such high praise and wonderful encouragement! Thank you! And thank you and Botgirl for the whole Single Frame Story concept. I look forward to it each week, even during those off weeks when I don’t get an entry in. It’s such great fun and wonderful to approach creativity in a cohort group that welcomes everyone in.
